WHAT WAS NEEDED

A safe house for WINGS is very nice for the families they take under their wing, but it often falls one bedroom short for mothers with three or more children. We asked ourselves, "Why not put a bedroom in the finished basement we completed a couple of years ago?" That made perfect sense because there was already a full bathroom down there. Simple? Not quite. Every bedroom requires two exits (safety code), one must be to the outside of the building.

WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED

Undaunted by a new challenge, The Build Team said, let’s cut a hole in the foundation and install an egress window. Then partition the basement and create a bedroom. Are we fearless or stupid? Then: Hole dug. Foundation cut. Window framed, installed and trimmed. Closet built. Walls finished. Doors hung. Exterior window well installed. Siding replaced and weather-proofed. Another volunteer success.
