WE WERE FLOORED

WHAT WAS NEEDED

Mitigating code violations: In this home, the flooring on the fist floor and the walls and ceiling were unfinished. These were deemed a hazardous condition by the local authority. The homeowner was threatened with fines and possible eviction unless the drywall and flooring were finished.—and there was a deadline.

WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED

First, we sealed the drywall. Then tackled the floor. The existing floor was at three different levels —a combination of old, finished flooring, the original subfloor, and a section of exposed underlayment. We leveled the floor (tricky) and installed new engineered hardwood flooring throughout—complete with baseboard, base-shoe, and registers. The owners, greatly relieved and rededicated to their home's appearance are now proceeding with painting and crown molding. The "authorities" are satisfied as well. (Whew!)
